Volterra is gearing up for ‘TartufoTorna’, a traditional autumn event dedicated to typical specialties from the Volterra and Val di Cecina area. This year ‘VOLTERRAGUSTO’ will be celebrating its famed local white truffle, a diamond-point product for this corner of Tuscany. The XIV Market Fair for White Truffles of the Colline Sanminiatesi is scheduled to run on October 22,23 and October 29, 30, 31 and November 1, from 10am to 8pm. Participants will enjoy the area’s cheeses, oil, wine, cold-cuts and chocolate—there is something for all types of foodies. As in its past two editions, the event will be organized as a moving flavor-packed itinerary. At each stop, participants will receive a sticker to include on their special card that they should pick up at the event’s info point and turn in at the end of the event. Each weekend, these cards will be part of a raffle where participants have the chance of winning exciting prizes.
Visitors to the porticos of Piazza de’ Priori can wander amidst stands from all over the area. Expect other original events like the ‘Cheese Race’ at 3pm on October 23, or a ‘Truffle Hunt’ at 2.30pm on November 1. This event showcases truffle hunting techniques as truffle-hunters and their hounds help guests discover just how and where to find the precious local tuber. At 3.30pm on November 1, in Piazza Priori make sure to stop by and catch a glimpse of the City of Volterra’s historical band of flag-wavers and musicians. The performance is sure to be noteworthy. Then, wine lovers won’t want to miss a food and wine sampling event held in the historical cellars of Palazzo De Luigi, organized by Val di Cecina’s Associazione Tartufai. Visitors to Volterra can also make good use of a special promotional offer for tourists and locals who want to get to know the city better.
